30th October 2010
Friday we drove to Shute Harbour, what a beautiful place - the water is so blue - views are beautiful.
Things to do here are sail or cruise to the Islands or the outer reef, as we have done all of this before we are just enjoying our time here wandering around or relaxing.
We went to the Saturday Markets this morning, nothing exciting, we bought a few butterflies to attached to the walls of caravan.shute Harb
We leave tomorrow morning not sure where we will end up.

We left Atherton this morning via Kennedy Highway heading for Undara National Park to see the Lava Tubes.
190,000 years ago a massive eruption caused one of the earth's longest Lava flow from a single Volcano in modern geological time. The massive eruption caused lava to flow more than 90 kms north and over 160 kms west. It is estimated that 23 cubic km of lava, at a temperature of 1200oC. The top of the Lava cooled as the underneath still remained hot and flowing, then as this cooled it formed cave like tubes.

Leaving Undara Park we headed along the Gregory Development road, with a brief one night at Greenvale a small town, 1 Pub and 1 all purpose shop, we continued along the Gregory Dev Road, most of the way the road was one lane branching into 2 lanes here and there - a tough drive for Warren with road trains passing.
We stopped at Ayr overnight, Ayr was a nice town not much to do.

Leaving Ayr we continued on the Bruce Highway headed for Airlie Beach, stopping for lunch at Bowen, extremely hot but a nice outlook over the water. We are staying 3 nights at Airlie Beach Island Gateway Holiday Park. We have been for a walk this afternoon, the town looks a bit like Port Douglas built right on the water with a large swimming lagoon, not far from a large marina with about 300 boats moored

5th and 6th Oct. we stayed at Walkabout Palms Townsville.
We took the car ferry to Magnetic Island for the day.
7th and 8th Oct we stayed at Mango Tree Park, Innisfail, back to the doctors.
9th to 19th Oct we stayed at Coconut Holiday Resort, Cairns. Andrew, Cian and Molloy joined us for 3 days before they flew to Singapore to stay with Natalie and meet up with Mary who was at a conference.
The park is fabulous geared for children with 3 pools, tennis court, jumping pillow, mini golf, water spout activities and many more things.
13th and 14th Oct. we left caravan at the park and flew to Bamaga, stayed over night before boarding a 4 wheel drive to the tip of Australia, Cape York, the road finished before reaching the tip, (see photo's) One would think there would be a path, not so, there is a 20 minute climb over rocks to get there.
We are glad we made the journey to the tip, the countryside is very different including accommodation.
Andrew said, "well Mum you went to the wilderness"
19th, 20th and 21st Oct we stayed at Glengarry Holiday Park, Port Douglas, we were in Port Douglas 30 years ago and as you would expect, nothing was the same.
22nd, 23rd and 24th we are staying at Atherton Woodlands Tourist Park, we are enjoying the weather a little cooler than all the 30/32 degrees we have had.
We have been to to Crystal Mine, Peanut World and today we are going to the Lake.
